  • April 14th, Pleasure, Connection & Healing | all-day workshop

What are the real causes of disease?

    • How often we find ourselves doing everything ‘good’ and we still failed to be healthy?
    • Why does our emotional state affect our body so much?
    • How can I be well?

In the last decade, Adriana Candeias has supported clients with a wide range of chronic disease recovering through natural therapies.  Nevertheless, she observed that access to the right medicines and diet was not always enough.  Some times, not even essential.
Studying which factors promote wellbeing in depth, Adriana started introducing one more remedy in her prescriptions: Pleasure.  The results were impressing.

Adriana is here to demonstrate how our body benefits from “feel good” sensations, on a daily basis.  Furthermore, that we depende on them.

    With her we will:

    • learn the real meaning of the word “Pleasure”
    • check our physical and emotional wellbeing in.
    • find holistic therapeutic tools we can all use at home
    • discover our desires and how important is to satisfy them
    • analyse tabus around indulgence, orgasm and gratification
    • acquire verbal and non-verbal communication skills
    • expand methods of individual expression
    • develop our capacity to connect authentically with others.

Adriana is especially careful in creating safe spaces where participants feel at ease, accepted and relaxed to engage in reflection, discussion, expression and meditation within their needs of the moment.
Be prepared to move your body, sit on the floor and interact with others.

    Next dates

    What Is It?

Adriana Candeias has designed this training as a personal development experience for women who wish to discover and embrace their feminine power in a truly holistic form. Apart from using thinking processes, we will practice, exercise and go through transitions where we encounter our own unique Woman-Of-Me. As we see Her in Her body and spirit, the transformation is carefully facilitated gradually, sequentially, ritualistically even, and cultivated within and by the group as a whole.

    What Happens?

Over the course of two and a half days, we will go though three stages of personal development which will feel like a journey out of our vision and ideals, facing obstacles and unblocking our patterns, into projects and actions.

The programme also includes special seminars on:
    – the healing processes and pleasure

Within a very intimate and small women-only group, female bodies and sensuality are our central inspirations and we are taking this opportunity to talk and explore this special universe as much as our WOM needs and desires to.

    Places are limited.
Reserve in advance to avoid disappointment.

  • Diet culture and immortality

Is dieting another way of denying death?
Or does it serve group bounding?
Is it the new way of religious identity?

I use diet merely from a therapeutic perspective.
I have studied many different approaches and have not made an oath on any, which gives me the freedom to be creative and above all specific to my patients’ needs.
I apply my knowledge in human and clinical physiology and my nutritional plans follow essentially organ support, cultural background and… palate.
Food is suppose to be pleasurable.  If healthy, even better. And if curing, … the goal.

I do not subscribe all opinions expressed in the present article.
I do not agree with “Humans [to be] the only animals aware of [their] mortality”, for example.
But it analysis our most prominent intellectual choices around what we eat, which is in fact … food for thought.

  • The physiology of love and creating the best workplace on Earth

In my “Oxytocin: the physiology of love” course for professionals, I go to great lengths to explain how physical wellbeing depends on our emotional environment, both internally and externally.

If you are an employer who would like to grow your business in a sustainable way you must consider the relationship between joy, trust, and reward of your employees and your company productivity and stability.

If you are an employee or self-employed professional, you may understand why it is so important to build and demand a work environment that not only feels good to be in but also allows your mind to expand, relax, evolve and create.

The point is that our greatest body systems are all related and work together to achieve and maintain health.  In balance, our hormones and neurotransmitters work to keep metabolic processes, immune response and intellectual activity efficient, whilst providing us with the space and ability to be emotionally more capable.  We live in healthier bodies, we relate better to our fellow colleagues and neighbours, we see the world under a more positive, hopeful and unified perspective.

Pragmatically, we are likely to identify problems and find solutions more effectively.  Which in turns compensates us with a higher sense of usefulness and purpose in life.

Inserted in a nurturing environment under supportive working conditions, our needs are acknowledged and satisfied.  And our job does not need to be a chore but in fact one more daily activity where we can be healthier and connected.

Want to learn how to set up a sustainable working environment for your team?
    I can help you.

  • Working Holidays:  Is This Happiness Strange?

Portuguese at my origins, the inevitability of holiday trips to visit family and friends takes me often to the light of Lisbon and the south Atlantic.

But I love my work, and ideas spring easily at new conversations, situations, questions.  Inspiration is everywhere and creativity does not go on breaks.  So, as I discovered some years ago, it is great to combine both.

From the early times as a graduating therapist giving consultations from different locations in Portugal, offering workshops on natural health for pregnant women and families, then as a tutor to students attending CPH’s course and more recently working with professionals and the regulatory bodies in the country, I have enjoyed merging both moods, the relaxed authentic and … nerdy manner.

We are working on bringing my extended Women-Of-Me workshops and Power Coaching retreats in the near future too.  Really, watch this space, as I will be bringing a fabulous team for this.

In the meantime, and whilst I am in Lisbon for NYE, nothing like starting 2017 with TWO intensive workshops.

“The real ache of a broken heart.”

    Thursday, Jan 5th, 6:00 – 8:30 pm, Cascais.

An introductory workshop on the links between emotions and the physical body , it will be fun as we navigate within organs sensitivities and blocked feelings whilst discovering ways to support some health conditions by developing specific problem solving, expression of emotions, establishing boundaries and promote self-love.

Although the session won’t be therapeutic you will gather enough information to identify your particular mind/body links and start appreciating your body as a key to your inner emotional needs.

    Reserve event with Ângela Coelho

“2017: one step to healthy relationships, nutrition and general being”

    Saturday, Jan 7th, 3:00 – 6:00 pm, Lisbon.

This will be an informal presentation of my coaching strategies to keep track of our projects, unblocking obstacles and achieve our dreams, sooner than later, whilst attaining physical health  and connecting wonderfully with those around us.

Is this utopian? Not at all. And I will be sharing how to do it in one single step.
Lots of time for fun exercises and Q&A.

Reserve event with Ana Rosendo Cabral

Looking forward to seeing you in Lisbon or London.

In the meantime, have the most wonderful auspicious and healthy 2017!!!!

  • Would you LIKE me?

One year ago I decided to own my brand.

    FACEBOOKdradrianacandeias

Having been working under the name of Applied Sustainable Health for over 5 years, I realised I had extended my practice to an unique approach to health which included my own personal development at an incredible deep level.

And according to my enquiries and questionnaires, that is exactly the reason why my clients seek my support.

I am in extreme gratitude to all of those who have been tutoring, mentoring, coaching and cheering me on this journey.
It has been an amazing year.

So many losses, so many achievements. And in order to cope with the tumescence, I had to go into real mindfulness, stillness and attentiveness practice. This has been the year where all meditation and reflection skills have finally creep into my daily stance.

I got the best logo I could ask for.
I am just getting the website I needed (and about to launch).
And in this learning, my patience has turned into love, which is here to be shared in the best way of my capacity.

So when you LIKE ME, you may also share my page with your friends and spread the word. Perhaps little by little my work will reach more of you,… which I really really believe to be a good thing!

  • Women-Of-Me: fly, fly, swallow!

Tomorrow, I am facilitating a one-day workshop for women.

One of those things I am really passionate about. Get women together. And spend some time working on things together. Individually but collectively.
Oh, it is going to be delicious.

I find that I am finally transferring my intellectual/academic/rational focus onto my intuitive/holistic/emotional understanding of people. It feels so good.
As if once the verb is achieved, the truth lives in the feel.

And we will be dwelving in the truth of heart tomorrow, scrupulously with exercises, reflection, meditation.
    And music.

We will be opening up the session with this tune.
It speaks about our different manifestations of Women, including as a swallow.

    “When the incarcerated beast
    Within us supersedes
    Breaks the cage by herself
    Fly fly wild one
    Swallow.”

    ENGLISH (transl by me)

I planted the seed of the word
Before the flood kill my cattle
I taught my son to plough and harvest
    on a neighbouring land
    The word burst
    Grew as the whale
In the silence of the full moon night
I saw seasons changing the gale blow
Shine the sun again over the bay
I was a good engineer a good beaver
    Loved my beloved with love
    I regret nothing
    only life
Taught me to sing this song
    ………
    Sorceress
    Mother of us all
    The wheat spike
    Damn to tyrants
    Lovely we praise you
you are more than one million years old

    Girl
    When the flare warms us
    In the great Winter cold
    A prayer comes to us
    That from afar sounds like
    A song

    Magistrate Our natural
    Victorious
    Healer of the afflicted
    Lover of a thousand husbands
More than a million time gone
    Tormenting

    When the incarcerated beast
    Within us supersedes
    Breaks the cage by herself
    Fly fly wild one
    A swallow.

“Alegria da Criação”, by José Afonso

    “Plantei a semente da palavra
Antes da cheia matar o meu gado
Ensinei ao meu filho a lavra e a colheita
    num terreno ao lado
    A palavra rompeu
    Cresceu como a baleia
No silêncio da noite à lua cheia
Vi mudar estações soprar a ventania
Brilhar de novo o sol sobre a baía
Fui um bom engenheiro um bom castor
Amei a minha amada com amor
De nada me arrependo só a vida
Me ensinou a cantar esta cantiga
    ……
    Feiticeira
    Mãe de todos nós
    Flor da espiga
    Maldita para tiranos
    Amorosa te louvamos
tens mais de um milhão de anos

    Rapariga
    Quando o lume nos aquece
    No grande frio de Inverno
    Vem até nós uma prece
    Que assim de longe parece
    Uma cantiga

    Magistrada Nossa natural
    Vitoriosa
    Curandeira dos aflitos
    Amante de mil maridos
Há mais de um milhão de idos
    tormentosa

    Quando a fera encarcerada
    Que dentro de nós suplanta
    Quebra a gaiola sozinha
    Voa voa endiabrada”
    Uma andorinha.

  • GAPS diet

GAPS is a term, which stands for Gut and Psychological Syndrome, created by Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride in 2004 after working with hundreds of children and adults with neurological and psychiatric conditions.  The connection between the functions of the digestive system, the brain and the immune system have been well established since and now GAPS is also an acronym for Gut and Physiological Syndrome focusing on autoimmunity and inflammation in general.

Dr Campbell-McBride developed a healing dietary protocol that is nowadays applied by practitioners around the world to support their patients recovering from conditions such as:

    • ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, Asperger’s or other learning, social or behavioural presentations.
    • Depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) Food, chemical or respiratory allergies / sensitivities.
    • IBS, Constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, colitis, Crohn’s or other digestive disorders, including colic in babies
    • Asthma, eczema, thrush, bed wetting
    • Chronic fatigue, arthritis, ankylosing spondilitis, lupus or any autoimmune issue

Dr Adriana Candeias has trained directly with her and is a certified GAPSTM practitioner.

  • The cyprid larvae in me.

    10 years ago, I obtained a PhD.

Today one of my soul-sister reminded me that, around this time ten years ago, we were both celebrating the long, painful but fruitful journey which had us being awarded the Doctorate of Philosophy.  In my case, in Ecophysiology, Metabolism and Statistics.

They say a PhD is the graduation stage of a scientist as an individual researcher, a leader in their field of study and a potential creator of projects.

During my Viva Vocce (oral presentation and defence) of my thesis, the internal examiner ignorantly laughed at the amazing figures and conclusions I had reached in a very out-of-fashion but still pertinent subject: energetics of marine planktonic beings and their survival strategies.

I remember looking at his face, having the serenity of submitting a great piece of work, whilst the external examiner, my supervisor and the head of the department interceded to support me and, mostly, stopping him from making fool of himself even more.
That moment, I smiled at him and thought:
“I am so happy I will never have to look at egotistic xenophobe misogynistic insecure and bully faces like yours ever again in Academia”.

That same day, without really noticing, I decided I would leave the academic research and little by little I started making my way into the real research that had always interested me:

    – The research of the individual –

    I have never looked back.
It has been a profound challenging and unstoppable process of discovery, analysis and evolution.  Above all, about myself.  Off course!

And the best about it is that instead of having to wait approximately 20 years to see the applications of my knowledge, as it happens in academic research, I can share my learnings, my conclusions, my inventions straight away, spreading the benefits of living a healthier and more connected existence at a direct and interactive level with all.

What is science if not to be at the service of humanity?

    With Love.

(An homage to all beautiful cyprid larvae whose fabulous astounding swimming speed of 6.4 cm per second originated the whole embarrassing debate with the Professor.
May you continue to swim and swirl and jump the infinite waters of the ocean, searching and trusting that at one moment, any time, you will find a good substratum where to develop your full potential.)
